MBA Candidate

Siddhartha B
(Rotterdam School of Management)

Having missed out on the 720+ target, a myriad of career counselors suggested I re-take the GMAT exam. But, the team at YourMBAStory made me think that I already had a lot to offer to MBA schools with my professional network and job experience. After creating a tailored approach for 3 schools I applied to, I received 2 positive responses and a scholarship.

MBA candidate

Rahul A
(Founder, EnggHeads)

I initially zeroed in on a couple of B schools specializing in family business programmes and got admit letter from one of them. The team at YourMBAStory was super helpful to help me understand the entire process and provided a fresh perspective in highlighting my unique aspects. Due to personal reasons, I joined my family business sooner but the support provided was very professional.

I had normal grades and GMAT but that didn't stop me from working hard on my applications. If I can pursue my MBA dream, so can You."

Graduating from your MBA class during Covid-19 times?

Probably a pandemic of this scale experienced once in a generation, Coronavirus has created a unique situation and brought the whole world economy to a standstill. Social distancing and travel restrictions have particularly impacted the aviation sector and this means many MBA aspirants planning to go forward their education plans have either shelved or put them on back burner till 2021.

While conventional wisdom would say factors such as job insecurities, reduced economic activity could impact the graduate employment prospects, a MBA degree from a prestigious institute would nevertheless be a great investment when looked over at the longer horizon.

Below are some steps to tide over this crisis –

1. Reach out to existing alums – Nothing works like an employee referral. Yes!! You heard that right, there are firms hiring out there and lot of open positions get filled up even before they’re advertised on the market.

2. Network, Network and Network – Explore various options such as virtual webinars, linked in groups, publishing articles based on the recently picked up skills. The idea is to showcase your profile and relevant experience armed with your newly picked up degree.

3. Explore Internships / Industry Certifications – If you get an opportunity, take it with all hands open. Stay in touch with your previous employers. Add further credentials to your profile to show how you’ve learned some new skills. You have nothing to lose.

4. Be persistent and patient – While you might not get the job you are looking for, take the opportunity where you can gain additional experience and you will reach you objectives eventually.

Economic crises come and go. Education stays permanent.
